A beautiful MAHONGWE Reliquary statue made of wood. The figure is covered with very fine decorated brass and red copper plates.
This figures represents the connection between the world of the living and the dead in African art. Ancestors of high descent were honored through baskets that were guarded by this type of figures.
Good condition, but this statue can show some usual wear and tear, tribal reparation on the back, see pictures.
