    People, with the facial marks of the
    Oyo
    lineage
    The Yoruba Peoples regard
    twins as extraordinary beings protected by Sango, the deity of thunder. They are believed to be capable of bestowing immense wealth upon their families or misfortune to those who do not honor them.
    Twins are honored with carved memorial figures when they die.
    Their elaborate hairstyle and beaded jewelry mark their honored status

    e see a female figure with a plaited hair - irun didi - in a split coiffure, with a little hair knot at the back of her head, she has pierced eyes and ears, as scarifications / tribal marks she has 3 horizontal strokes on her cheek and 3 vertical strokes on her fore head, square shoulders, protruding breasts, her arms are carved free from the body, short legs, flat feet, standing on a circular base, she is wearing glass beads around her right wrist and both ankles and some very fine plaited rope(?) around her right arm
    condition:
    firm, smooth surface, no restoration, a crack on the backside of the circular base, facial features have declined through the years, probably by intensive touching and rubbing
    we did not clean, polish or wax it, we did not change the patine or condition
    the color of this statue was hard to catch on picture, her upper front is darker than the rest
