    Description

This is a antique, wooden, African, Luba, stool chair which was tribally hand carved from a single piece of wood which features a couple of caryatid figures consisting of a male figure and female figure standing on the base supporting the seat of the stool on their outstretched fingertips. Most Luba art relates to kings and important chiefs, who defined their power by the display of prestige objects during important ceremonies. Stools were among the most important of these objects. This African stool was made and used by the Luba people and was collected in the Congo, Africa. This African Luba stool measures 13.50 inches across the top with a circumference of 43 inches around the top of the seat and a circumference of 37.50 inches around the base and is 18 inches tall. This stool weighs 14 pounds 7 ounces. Good antique rustic tribally used condition with some wear mostly to the base that has some cracks and wood loss. This specimen is very desirable and would make a fine addition to any African collection.
