Overdose - treatment
In case of accidental oral ingestion of topical forms (emulsion or gel) of dimethithiine maleate, symptoms of overdose with H1 antihistamines may occur: depression of the CNS with drowsiness (mainly in adults), CNS stimulation and antimuscarinic effects (especially in children) , including irritability, ataxia, hallucinations, tonic-clonic seizures, mydriasis, dry mouth, hot flushes, urine retention, and fever. Hypotension may also occur.
There is no specific antidote for overdosage with antihistamines.
Ordinary first aid should be given, which, when taken orally, includes: active carbon, saline laxative and routine cardiopulmonary supportive measures if necessary. No stimulants should be used. Vasodiluents can be used to treat hypotension.
