Beautiful Benin Messenger Bell in Bronze. The handle of this bell is in the middle part. On the bottem, the bell and has beautiful tribal figurations. On top a head of a Benin dignitary. This item is used as a bell, look at the clapper inside.
Almost all Benin art was created to honor the king , or Oba, who has reigned, with his ancestors, from the 15th century. Each is sculpted by hand, then cast in bronze.
Beautifully made, with plenty of details, tribal figurations on the head and lots of tribal scarifications on the face. It has a beautiful dark brown patina.
This bell is of high quality and was made with the - cire perdue technique- , and is therefore unique in its kind. Beautifully finished off in detail.
Good condition, but with signs of use and normal holes of cast glitches. Please study the photos well.
