from the
Akan
people,
naturally aged bronze with verdigris patina, miniature figurative metal sculpture of a male tribal figure wearing a loin cloth, using a large staff or pestle in a mortar seen on the ground in front of him, is in absolutely untouched and undisturbed overall antique condition. The surfaces are simply magnificent, with naturally aged bronze patina and feature an archaic, stylized figuration, characteristic of earlier antique
Akan
bronze figurative metal sculpture. These miniature bronze figures were used in mercantile trade and as counterweights on scales in the measurement of gold and other valued minerals by the
Akan
people. The figure is holding a large pestle with both arms in a cocked position, using the pestle to pound wheat, seed or nuts into flour or meal. The figure wears a wrap or loin cloth and stands on a thin square base. Authentic, original and absolutely gorgeous. Magnificent.
CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. In absolutely 100% untouched, undisturbed condition.
