Cambodia is home to one of the most ancient surviving chess forms in the world. Pictured on the ancient walls of Angkor Watt, still played today on the streets, in cafes and in high level ceremonial tournaments, this is truly one of the great games of the world.
A HIGH QUALITY WOODEN SET
This is a high quality hardwood set, hand made by Cambodian craftsmen. Much better quality then the simple sets often played in cafes, this set is large and finely detailed. It is the sort of chess set that a true Cambodian player would be proud to share with his or her chess companions.
The King of this set is approximately 3½ inches (9 cm) tall.
The entire set of pieces alone weighs about 1 pound, 12 ounces.
DURABLE CAMBODIAN STYLE PLAYING MAT
The traditional Cambodian chessboard does not have the alternate colors so familiar to Western players. This playing mat is of durable vinyl, showing a photographic reproduction of a top-quality crafted board with detailed carving.
The playing mat is approximately 21 inches (53 cm) on each side, with approx. 2¼ inch playing squares.
RULES INCLUDED
The rules of Cambodian chess are strikingly different from the modern international game, but more similar to the chess that was played centuries ago. A great deal of strategizing and positioning is involved, with sharp, decisive tactics and sometimes elaborate ending scenarios.
A rule booklet is included with this set, so that the player may begin playing immediately in the true Cambodian style
