    Description

This is a vintage railroad train car drill or boring machine. It was made by R. Winkler and patented in 1909 in Covington, Kentucky. It is 40" tall operates by moving the two opposing knobs like bicycle pedals. The chain turns the drill bit on the very end.
The patent specifications indicate that it was intended for use boring holes in the sills of railroad freight cars.
It's in good condition and does work. It does show it's age and has a nice patina but there is no rust and nothing is broken. It doesn't come with a drill bit, just the tool. The chain and gear would need to be greased if someone wanted to use it but it turns fine now, just a little dry. It is stamped Patent May 1909 twice on the top of the brace and it is stamped R. Winkler Covington Kentucky on the bottom of the curved brace. There isn't much online about this unique tool but it is very neat looking. Someone who is good at research could probably find out more information about it's history. Feel free to ask questions, no international shipping. Make an offer, I don't know what it's worth.
